Day 1
Team PACC/WattPosse went into Tulsa Tough a hungry bunch of riders. Hungry to race aggressively, hungry to get our sponsors some camera time, and hungry to put one of our boys on the podium at the end of the day. Tulsa Oklahoma’s shadow was the setting for the weekend of racing. For Ryan “the wolverine” Dromgoole and Michael “the real deal” lalla this was their first experience. Both were eager and ready to give it their all.
The blue dome district was the scene of Friday’s action. Lalla got the aggression rolling for the WattPosse halfway through the race by attacking trying to draw out a few fellow aggressors. There seemed to be a lack of aggression, but “the real deal” was rewarded with a sweet $100 prime for his efforts. With 5 laps to go Lalla got on the front for a spry Jesse “the man” Moran, to reel in two escapees that were clinging to a 30 second lead. A lap later, with the gap reduced by half, lalla pulled off to watch the chase once again flounder. Then the rain came. At first it was light, then the heavens opened up and it started to get wet. Real wet! Dromgoole went down in a pileup at 2 laps to go. Lalla was caught behind a crash at about the same time. Jesse, however, was sitting pretty at 12th wheel with ¾ of a lap to go when a rider braked in a wet corner. Game Over!
Not all was lost, there was the P/1 race to look forward to. Phil “the bowling ball” Snodgrass had an aggressive race and was ultimately well positioned with 3 to go when his head thankfully cushioned his ensuing fall. After racing Saturday and Sunday and mainly not knowing his own name, he found out he had a concussion.
Borski, summed it up best,, “pedal, pedal, pedal, rain, crashes everywhere, live to fight it out another day!
