This weekend has been great so far. The WATT POSSE is truly living the dream (we don't even know what day of the week it is right now....:)
Time Trial: The course was just over 4 km with a short flat run up to the bottom of the hill. At that point it got tough. It quickly ramped to around 10% grade for an average of 6.8% for the entire time trial (including the flat section). The winner afteraged over 17 mph, but the W.P. wasn't far behind. Koble clocked in at 9'16', Rusty at 10'02, Lalla at 10'21'' (with a 1'' time penalty) and Jesse at 10'55''. The winner came in at 8'47...
Road Race 1: The 110 mile race got off to a slow start. Everyone knew it was to be brutal due only to the miles, so attacks were slow to come and people were slow to respond. There were to main climbs on the day, the second being over 10 miles long. Lalla and Koble stayed in the first peloton coming over the second climb and still in the game for a win. Stefan Rothe (Tulsa Tough) was up the road after a huge attack at the end of the climb. Towards the end of the descent, Koble put his descending skills into action breaking free from the peloton and then motoring away with a solo effort trying to catch (and work with) Rothe. Unfortunately he (and later Rother) were caught as the peloton kept the pace fast to catch the break further up the road. At the end of the day, it came down to a uphill field sprint after two kicker climbs. Koble and Lalla came in at 18th and 24th respectively with Stover in a follow group 20 minutes back. Jesse wasn't able to make the time cut, but has been inspired to raise training volume.
This is Jesse shortly after he pee'ed on himself in the woods. You can't see it, but he has a towel in his hand to clean up.
